Savage Baronies Savage Coast
Savage Baronies was the second release in the AD&D Red Steel line. It was a companion to the main boxed set: where the first set covered the Savage Coast as a whole, this set concentrated on the Savage Baronies region. The books included small individual maps for each of the small nations, but the poster map included in the box featured the whole Savage Coast region. This was the first time in a long while for a map of such scope to appear at this scale.
The map was firmly based on the three poster maps from Red Steel, including all of their territory at a smaller scale, with less detail. But it also expanded in all directions, with the northwestern corner region in particular appearing here for the first time. Some attempt even seems to have been made to incorporate a few features from Dungeon #6 and 7’s Great Northway Lands maps.
Perhaps unsurprisingly for a map focusing on the Red Steel subsetting rather than Mystara as a whole, there are alignment problems when trying to fit this map together with the rest of Mystara. The Serpent Peninsula especially seems rather out of alignment.
