Zendrolion’s Rakasta 3,000 to 2,000 BC
The sixth of eight maps in Simone’s Rakasta of Mystara series heralded the change to the modern world map. As the subtitle said, this was the Aftermaths of the Great Rain of Fire. Simone credited the original Master Set map, with adaptations by Michele Carpita in addition to his own changes and additions.
The note at the bottom of the map is fascinating reading, as it reveals Simone’s (and indeed the community’s) thinking at the time: we didn’t know the world map’s projection at all. Simone correctly labelled the polar openings as torus-shaped — something that it took me a lot longer to realise, but it’s absolutely true.
