Ashtagon’s HWA3 Shahjapur, 8 miles per hex
The third and last of Emma’s non-Patera maps while she worked on her 8 mile per hex map of the moon was this near-replica of HWA’s Shahjapur. With this, she had completed the big four 8 mile per hex Hollow World maps.
It was quite a problematic map, with all sorts of strangeness going on, including having West at the top of the page, and having an extremely high density of cities compared to other Mystara maps at this scale. Emma brought up the rivers in her comment at The Piazza:
Several of the rivers are weird by real world standards. Both of the river deltas on the top side of the map are bigger than that of the Nile, but with drainage basins much smaller in size. There is a river on the right side of the map which is ambiguous in the direction of outflow. Some of the rivers on the plateaus have no obvious drainage destination. All of these issues are technically possible even in the real world, but to appear in a fantasy map without explanation is… not ideal.
Incidentally, this version on DeviantArt is officially the first map I published and used the 2025 version to finish. (I still did most of the work in v1.77 though). I took advantage of the fancier cliff lines and text shadows to make the map labels easier to read.
Worldographer 2025 had some great new features, as seen here. Unfortunately it also had some problems, and the previous version remains an important tool as of this writing. Nonetheless, Emma’s results once again speak for themselves.
