Ashtagon’s Patera South Pole, 8 miles per hex
With the full Patera, 8 mile per hex map approaching completion and the North Pole v2 map posted, Emma turned her attention to the South Pole. Although she marked it as a draft, work-in-progress version, she had taken it to quite a high level of completion by this point.
This map gave a tantalising first glimpse at the extent of Emma’s work on Patera’s nations and their languages. For Surabayang, a nation based on Indonesia, she chose the Lontara script. Also visible on the edge of the map are Chinese-based names for the more northern nation of Selimpore. And there were a lot more to be seen in both the North Pole and the finished Patera world map.
Perhaps I’m biased, as the idea for these bilingual labels came from my Myoshima map, but I think the Asian-themed scripts gave a real sense of character to the maps. Emma took inspiration from my idea and carried it much further, giving every nation their own unique letters.
It would not now be long until Emma completed the full world map.
