Zendrolion’s Threshold Area, 2.7 miles per hex v2
After posting an initial version in August 2006, the MMB community had various comments and suggestions for tweaks. Simone returned with a new version in March 2007. He introduced it as follows:
I’ve finally managed to update the map of the Threshold region, adding the features from “Hail the Heroes” and other things some of you proposed. I’ve also updated the quick list of locations found in the first post of this topic. The map with the 8-miles grid overlay – some posts below the first one – has been updated also.
Since these two versions overwrote the original maps, both in the MMB thread as well as at the Vaults of Pandius, the originals were displaced and mostly lost at this point. Moreover, since Simone updated the original post’s list of features, it became rather hard to track the course of development. I believe I have it correct now, though.
The major changes involved the exact location of Castle Mistamere (previously marked southeast of Threshold, now north-northwest where the old version had Ancient Ruins); the addition of Blackstone Heath; the addition of Zadreth and the Temple of the Shield on the west shore of Windrush Lake; the addition of the Gateway of Hutaaka, the Foamfire River waterfall, trails in the Lost Valley, and the Singing Pool label; the renaming of Knosht to Armstead (Knosht); and the renaming of Iron Fortress to Elwyn’s Sanctuary. These changes were mostly suggested by Sionainn Mac Innéirghe, Roger Girtman, and Andrew Theisen — among others.
Simone’s work on this map has been highly influential ever since, with numerous other fan maps referring back to his ideas. John Calvin even created a PC version of the map that hid DM-only information.
