Ramelin’s Fricana, 8 miles per hex v2
In December 2021, Jose shared this map to his DeviantArt gallery — a gift to the community. The previous version was already an amazing achievement, and this map is in fact just a cropped version of that map, with zero changes that I could find. But that’s not to say that this map wasn’t welcome — not at all.
Both versions are massive, to the point of being difficult to handle at times. This second version cropped off the northern and southern extremes, focusing more tightly on this are of northern Davania which Jose named Fricana. It’s still a huge map and a very large file, but any amount of reduction would make it easier to deal with.
As of this writing, this is Jose’s last published map for Ramelin Mystara. It has been four and a half years since its publication, and many may be wondering if we’ve seen the last of expansions to the world at 8 miles per hex.
To that, I can only say: don’t worry. It’s the nature of Mystaran fandom that projects wax and wane, and people wander off and later return — sometimes repeatedly.
But you don’t have to take my word for it. Recently, I spoke to the man himself on Discord, where he explained:
Each of my maps needs a seeding idea. When I come up with one, I explore and expand the idea as far as I can. I have some other half made maps, nowhere near completion. Be reassured I have not abandoned My Mystara mapping. I Will post as soon as I am able to complete more maps. (I am working on the Tangor Peninsula in Skothar, and venturing into the lands of the diamond ring in Davania).
So there you have it. Thank you for all of your wonderful and astonishing work, Jose!
Ramelin Mystara will return…
