Ramelin’s Shiye-Lawr, 8 miles per hex
Following Bruce Head’s Alphatia project of 2012-2013 and Ramelin Mystara’s Blackheart and Imperial Territories maps in early 2016, Shiye-Lawr was the last remaining undeveloped region of Mystara. Eager to get the whole map completed, in early March 2018 I posted to the Mystara Cartographic Society on Facebook, praising Jose’s versions of the missing maps, and asking Jose if he had made his version of Shiye-Lawr. Just five days later, he delivered, sharing the map below to his DeviantArt gallery. He explained his concept:
I imagine a forest atop a very old caldera, with hot springs, geysers and boiling lakes. The region suffers from many small tremors as it sits on top of a potential Supervolcano. Otherwise the land is bountiful and an elven paradise (except the border with Blackheart).
As we had come to expect, it’s very much in the style of Bruce Heard’s Mystara, fitting neatly into that last remaining hole in the map. With this piece, thanks to Jose, a full 8 mile per hex map of mainland Alphatia was now not only possible, but inevitable. The only remaining question was who would post it first.
It’s really no exaggeration to say that this map was a dream come true for me. Thank you, Jose!
